Hiring Process

The hiring process will include a thorough background investigation, a psychological screening and a comprehensive medical examination.

  • Once you have successfully passed the tests (refer to the application process), you will then participate in a mass orientation and interview process.
    • You must bring your original birth certificate, California driver’s license, original Social Security Card, Military DD214 form (if applicable), and official sealed college transcripts (if applicable).
      • Probation Corrections Officer: Completion of at least 60 semester or 90 quarter units or an Associate’s Degree.
      • Deputy Probation Officer: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree.
      • Non-Sworn Positions: Completion of a high school diploma, GED, Equivalency Exam, and/or college units based on the desired position requirements
    • You are also required to complete a Personal History Statement, a Pre-Investigative Questionnaire, and a 3-5 page autobiography. Instructions for completing the autobiography are provided prior to your interview.
  • Submission of fingerprints.
  • Investigation areas of background include but are not limited to: family members, references, residences, job experience, military experience, financial, arrests/convictions, driving record, narcotics usage, gang activity, etc.
  • Computer Voice Stress Analysis Examination
    • Questions address applicant’s truthfulness regarding personal information, employment, motor vehicle operation, narcotics/alcohol usage, military service, behavior history, and financial history.
  • Physical Exam – All applicants must successfully pass a physical evaluation.
  • Psychological Evaluation – All applicants must successfully pass a psychological evaluation. (Sworn applicants only.)
