Probation Foster Youth Relative Notifications
Pursuant to Federal Public Law (PL) 110-351 and Welfare and Institutions Code (WIC) sections 309 and 628, county child welfare and probation departments are required to provide notification to any known relatives of children and youth being placed into foster care within 30 days of removal from his/her parents/guardians. If you believe you are a relative of a probation youth who has been removed from his/her parents/guardians, and you have not been notified, please contact us to discuss how you may participate in the youth’s out-of-home care.
Some of the ways you may help include but are not limited to:
- Having the youth live with you temporarily while the youth and parents/guardians work on their identified case plan goals
- Providing us with information about other relatives who may want to help
- Visiting the youth while in foster care
- Writing letters and/or having telephone contact with the youth
- Supporting the youth and his/her parents/guardians throughout the Family Reunification process
Please call (951) 358-4310 and ask to speak to a member of the Resource Family Approval (RFA) Unit to discuss these options with a probation officer. Please know that contacting us does not obligate you in any way. You may also email us at [email protected].
